Why Catch and Release
By The Ohio Smallmouth Alliance

The Ohio Smallmouth Alliance is an active organization working to preserve Ohio's smallmouth bass fisheries. Although we'd love to spend all of our time just fishing for smallies, we recognize the importance of being involved in conservation projects so that the future of the sport is ensured.

SCALE SAMPLING AND FISHING DIARIES

TOSA members assist the Ohio Division of Wildlife in collecting biological data by taking scale samples from smallmouth bass that are caught (and released) as well as maintaining fishing diaries. This information helps the Division's biologists gain further understanding of the dynamics of stream smallmouth bass populations so that the resource can be effectively managed.

PUBLIC OUTREACH
AND EDUCATION

The Ohio Smallmouth Alliance is actively involved in efforts to promote catch and release and other conservation efforts that ensure the future of this sport.

RIVER CLEAN-UPS

The Ohio Smallmouth Alliance is a proud participant in Ohio's Adopt-A-Waterway program and currently sponsors clean-ups on Big Darby Creek. Our members participate by collecting trash that might otherwise threaten the habitat of smallmouth bass and other important species.

AND OF COURSE WE MAKE TIME
TO GO FISHING!

Our summer fishing outings have taken us to some of Ohio's most scenic areas and best smallmouth bass fisheries including: Big Darby Creek, Kokosing River, Stillwater River, Ohio Brush Creek, Grand River, Little Beaver Creek, Hocking River, Licking River, Sandusky River, and of course, Lake Erie.
